What could the future of gaming look like?

What does gaming mean to us today? What will gaming mean to us in 10 years? Will gaming still be around in 100 years or will we all have found a new form of entertainment? These are all questions that some gamers and developers (like myself), think about from time to time. Like all forms of art and media, things change and adapt in ways that generally affect them positively. For gaming, I imagine that as computer graphics, technology, and changing demands from gamers start to change, gaming will become more complex and more enjoyable as time passes.

As gaming begins to venture into new mediums and technological marvels, one that stands out as being both realistic and feasible is virtual reality (VR for short). VR gaming started making major strides during the 1990s and has since grown into one of the most profitable and most technologically advanced ways to game currently, with HTC, Meta (previously Oculus) and PlayStation VR being the most common ways gamers can experience gaming in virtual reality from the comfort of their own homes. I personally own both an HTC Vive OG and a Meta Quest 2, and they have given me ways of socializing with friends and participating in unique experiences I've never seen before, that I can say with certainty, VR will only continue to evolve in ways that will not only lift gaming to heights, but technology as a whole.

It's a fact that almost everyone out of the billions of humans on the planet has mobile smartphones, and thankfully gaming is fully possible on them thanks to the advances in mobile processors and graphical improvements.
With an industry that brought in close to $124 billion
in 2023, it's safe to say that as mobile phones become faster, more powerful and more efficient, games will be improved alongside them. Right now companies like Nvidia are experimenting with cloud streaming PC games to mobile devices, but I believe that soon Phones will become powerful enough to be able to run a wider range of games and experiences without having to make the games run on smaller resolutions and lower quality textures. It just makes sense that as people become more dependent on their phones to do advanced things games will advance alongside it.

The future of gaming doesn't have to be a scary thing. While some wish that gaming be eradicated from the Earth and others don't want to do anything else in life but play video games, society and people will always find a new way to entertain themselves and find new and exciting ways to do extravagant things, and at the current moment, it seems like gaming is the perfect fit for our modern world.

The Beautiful Chaos of OpenTTD

In the modern era where we have games like The Sims 4 and Cities: Skylines , I found it hard to find a game that made me feel like there was a true meaning behind what I was doing. That is until I discovered OpenTTD , an open-source "business simulation game" where you take on the role of a business owner in a large (or small) procedurally generated map with a simple goal. Transport stuff, and make a ton of money. While the premise of the game is very simple, the actual execution of it can be a tad difficult at times, not to any fault of the game but to my own lack of understanding of basic economics. The game itself can be played either by yourself for a very relaxed and at-your-own-pace kind of gameplay, while also featuring a multiplayer mode to play on servers and compete with other players or personal friends. It offers a unique type of gameplay that might not appeal to everyone, but what does?     When you're first thrown into the game (after ...

Old web games can still be played in 2024!

I recently rediscovered a program I used to use a couple of years back when I was still in high school. We used to want to play games on our computers but of course, games would get removed from sites after a while or my school would find out about a site we played on cause one of our "less popular" classmates would narc on us and we'd lose our free time activities. That all changed when I found Flashpoint Infinity , probably the funest and most precious program I will always need on my computer.        One of the great thing about this program is just how massive it's library actually is. Currently Flashpoint has archived and hosts 193,529 games in it's library, and that number keeps growing with every update. When you first get the program you have two options of download, you can download Flashpoint Infinity (like I did) which let's you choose and download games as you play them or if you're especially adventurous, you can download Flash...
